Team USO 2024: Corrie
The USO not only supports our Nation’s service members, but also their families. When our service members know that their families have a place to relax and find community, it can relieve the potential stress of leaving them at home. Through USO programs like Coffee Connections, Special Delivery, the Reading Program and Military Virtual Programming – just to name a few – there is a space for everyone to find common ground and be involved. Corrie knows firsthand the positive impact the USO has on military families. She’s a military spouse, wife, mother and this year, running with #teamUSO in the 128th Boston Marathon taking place on April 15th, 2024.
Corrie decided that instead of just navigating the day-to-day life while living on post, she would share her experiences, the highs and the lows, to encourage others like herself through social media. She strives to “find joy in the uncontrollable.”
“It’s been 6 years (and two kids) since I ran a marathon and I honestly didn’t think I’d ever do another one, but when the opportunity to run Boston with the USO came up, I had to try,” stated Corrie on her Instagram account, @ajoyfulmilspouse.
Through the early morning training runs and the hectic schedule of raising two children, Corrie showed her followers as she trained for the Boston Marathon that you don’t have to have the right circumstances to achieve your goals, you just have to start and take every day one step at a time.
“Marathon training is the marathon…it’s the hours, the days, the mornings, the miles. It’s kind of like military life. It’s a lot more fun when you embrace the journey. The process of who you’re becoming in the midst of it, not just waiting for the end,” said Corrie.
But why should you support team USO as they make their way to Boston? You’re supporting people just like Corrie and her family.
“There are real fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers and fiends on the other side of your support. My own family included. The USO provides crucial support to service members and their families, offering programs, entertainment, and resources to enhance their well-being,” said Corrie.
Help us make Corrie’s dream to run in the Boston Marathon come true, but more importantly, you’re supporting her sister, her husband and the countless service members that choose daily to put our well-being and safety first.
